UNIVERSAL FRAMES

from £1.90

These Elbesee Universal Frames are perfect for canvas work and can be used, too, for crewelwork or embroidery.

The frames consist of two pairs of square profile legs, available in different sizes, each pair comes complete with 2 plastic corner pieces.

Pairs of legs are available in the following sizes: 175mm, 200mm, 225mm, 250mm, 275mm, 300mm, 350mm 400mm & 450mm.

To make a square frame: select two pairs of legs of the same size. For a rectangular frame: select pairs of different sizes.

The leg length represents the INTERNAL measurement of the frame so make sure that the stitching area is fully within the aperture of the frame.

Your canvas or fabric needs to be at least 3cm/30mm larger than the aperture to allow fixing to the legs of the frame.

The material is attached to the frame with either drawing pins or staples (use a staple gun). Neither of these are included.

The frames are sturdy and once your project is complete they are re-usable multiple times, you can build up a collection of legs to suit any size of project.

If using one of these frames for needlepoint/canvas work it reduces markedly any distortion of your finished piece and if for larger pieces of crewelwork or embroidery it avoids having to move an embroidery hoop and risking ‘bruising’ the fabric and crushing any already completed stitching.

We have found that when using one of these frames for cloth rather than canvas it is best, once the fabric is attached with drawing pins or staples, to whip stitch around the legs to even out the tension and ensure the fabric is taut.
